Gymnastics and Tumbling Club Structure & Pathways

Club Structure

At Tumbles, our club structure is designed to support long-term development and help every gymnast achieve their full potential.

We provide clear, progressive pathways that allow gymnasts to grow in confidence, ability, and ambition. Gymnasts are carefully grouped according to their skill level, stage of development, and individual needs to ensure they are both challenged and supported in the right environment.

Progress is continuously monitored within sessions, with regular assessments built into our programme. When a gymnast successfully completes a level, they will be invited to move into the next stage or class where appropriate.

For Squad gymnasts, progression, pathway decisions, and competition planning are communicated directly by the coaching team.

At every stage, our focus is on structured progression, strong foundations, and creating opportunities for each gymnast to thrive.

Pathways

Gymnastics Pathway

All our gymnasts start in our recreational programme following the highly respected Perfect 10 Programme. The Perfect 10 Levels 1-10 are divided into stages and aims to provide a complete progressive pathway for gymnasts of all ages.  Preschool Stage 0 (level 1-4) ,

Stage 1 (Level 5-6), Stage 2 (Levels 7-8) and Stage 3 (levels 9-10).

Children work hard to advance through our recreational programme. Each Stage has a Skill Progress Card that allows you to see your child's progress. Children require 57 stars to advance to the next Stage. Progression varies greatly among individuals. On average children move up through Levels 5 -10 at a rate of one per year. The focus should be on skill mastery rather than rapid advancement. Children in levels 5 -10 have three events per year adding an extra layer of excitement to the programme.

Upon completion of our Stage 3 Gymnastics programme, gymnasts can choose to remain in the recreational programme to continue developing their skills, fitness, and confidence in a fun and social environment, or they may be invited to progress into our Competitive Squad Pathway.

Gymnastics Squad Pathway

Competitive Gymnastics at Tumbles

At Tumbles, our Squad Pathway is designed to give every gymnast a clear progression route and access to appropriate competitions.

As gymnasts develop, our programme evolves with them — ensuring structured training, focused coaching, and the right level of challenge at every stage.

We offer three competitive pathways:

Development Pathway

Building Strong Foundations

Designed to prepare gymnasts for competitive gymnastics through strength, flexibility, shaping, and technical development across all apparatus.

  • Preparation Squad – 2 hours per week
  • Development Squad – 4 hours per week

This pathway prepares gymnasts for entry into either the Regional or National programme.

Regional Pathway

Floor & Vault Competitions (North West Region)

The Regional Pathway offers a fantastic competitive experience with a manageable training commitment.

Gymnasts compete in Floor and Vault at a level that matches their current ability:

  • Pre-Novice
  • Novice
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced

Training: 4–8 hours per week (2 days)

Commitment: Year-round

Progression is based on competition performance and coach assessment.

National Pathway

4-Piece Artistic Gymnastics (Vault, Bars, Beam & Floor)

The National Pathway is for gymnasts training at a higher competitive level.

Gymnasts compete in two programmes each year:

Grades (Start of Year)

Compulsory routines set by British Gymnastics to develop exceptional foundations in strength, control, and technique.

Classic Challenge (Second Half of Year)

Progressive levels: Tin → Zinc → Copper → Bronze → Silver → Gold
Gymnasts perform individual routines and progress through levels by achieving set mobility scores.

Participation is a year-round commitment.

Regional vs National – What’s the Difference?

Regional
• Floor & Vault only
• 4–8 training hours per week
• Flexible progression

National
• Full 4-piece artistic programme
• 8–18 training hours per week
• Structured mobility system

Both pathways provide rewarding competition experiences. Squad placement is based on ability, readiness, and coach assessment.

Competitive Tumbling

Tumbling Pathway

Our Tumbling Programme follows the British Gymnastics Technical Requirements for the Tumbling Club Pathway, providing a clear and progressive structure for all athletes.

Gymnasts train in level-specific groups to ensure focused coaching, consistent set-ups and strong technical development.

Stage 1

1 hour per week – Club Level 1

Stage 2

1.5 hours per week – Club Level 2

Stage 3

2 hours per week – Club Level 3

Stage 4

2 hours per week – Club Levels 4, 5 & 6
(Add-on option for gymnasts unable to attend NDP Squad)

NDP Squad

6.5 hours per week – Club Levels 4, 5 & 6

We prioritise quality of training over quantity of hours, ensuring every gymnast progresses safely, confidently and at the correct level.

Additional hours can be added within the appropriate stage of the pathway.
